New Festive Game Offers the ‘Prize’ of a Merrier Christmas

A free online Christmas game, which challenges you to create a winter wonderland by clicking on smiling snowflakes, has the potential to make the festive season merrier for you, your family, your friends and your work colleagues.

Created by cut-e, the international talent and assessment specialist, the game shows a winter snow scene in which snowflakes fall from the top of the screen, either with smiling faces or frowns. In one minute, you have to quickly click on as many smiling snowflakes as you can, as they fall – and ignore the unhappy ones. When you click on a smiling snowflake, it becomes a star; if you click on a miserable snowflake, it turns to slush.

“Our new game is a fun challenge which tests your reaction speed and your ability to make quick and accurate decisions,” said Dr Achim Preuss, Chief Technology Officer of cut-e. “Research shows that focusing on ‘friendly face’ emoticons can increase your positivity and your performance. Happiness is infectious, so when you’re happy, it can start to spread to those around you. By focusing on the positives, and avoiding the negatives, this game primes you to approach the Christmas season with a positive attitude and renewed enthusiasm, so you’ll enjoy it more and everyone around you will benefit too.”

An introduction provides instructions. At the end, the game calculates your score and gives you feedback on the implications and how you compare against others. You can save your score in the ‘high scores’ list for others to see.

Games, gamification and game-based assessments are widely used alongside traditional psychometric assessments to assess candidates for recruitment and development, differentiate an organisation and provide an immersive candidate experience, so recruiters can make fair and objective selection decisions.

“Games have great potential in organisations but, here, our test designers have simply had fun by creating an engaging online game that you can play as many times as you like,” said Dr Preuss. “By doing this, you can spread a little happiness and train yourself to enjoy a merrier Christmas.”
