LinkedIn announced recently it is rolling out a free messaging service to its 562 million users. The service allows job seekers and HR professionals to send voice messages via the LinkedIn mobile app and receive them via the app or the web.
LinkedIn is positioning the new feature as a more convenient way to communicate with connections once a conversation has already begun. LinkedIn Messaging users can record and send a voice message up to one minute in length and review the message before hitting the send button. According to LinkedIn Senior Product Manager Zack Hendlin, who wrote the post announcing the new feature on the official LinkedIn Blog, “Voice messages let you more easily and quickly communicate in your own voice with your connections.” Considering “People speak about four times faster than they type” as Hendlin explains, the case for leaving a quick message makes a lot of sense.
Since the purchase of LinkedIn by Microsoft, the company has grown and added new features.
