It’s no secret that healthy workers are among the happiest and the most productive at their jobs.

Numerous studies have shown that employees in better overall health exhibit high performance and efficiency levels leading to a greater focus on corporate wellness programs.

The opposite is also true, poor health often results in lower job performance, productivity and attendance.
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle not only affects your personal quality of life but statistics have shown that it also benefits your career.

Some helpful but simple tips that will have a positive impact on your health and your career!

Get the right amount of sleep
Studies have shown that 40% of people get less than the recommended 7-9 hours’ sleep per night. Even if you are clocking 20-30 minutes less than the recommend 7 hours per night it can affect your cognitive performance and you won’t realise it. It is estimated that a large proportion of society are sleep deprived with some studies claiming between 30 & 40 % of people have been sleep deprived since adolescence.

Use a Better Office Chair
If you spend most of your day sitting, your chair can greatly affect how you feel during working hours. When you are sitting in the wrong chair over time you will feel discomfort, fatigue, sluggishness and trouble focusing. This has a ripple negative effect beyond work performance and productivity into employees personal and family lives.

Exercise

The most successful people know that exercise is the key to mentally and physically pushing themselves further, though some are more willing to keep up the habit than others Numerous studies have found exercise to be one of the most important habits you can develop to transform your life. Working out can make you healthier, happier, and better able to sleep; it can boost your memory, concentration, and mental sharpness; and you don’t need to spend a lot of time doing it to reap the benefit. Incorporating exercise into your work day will benefit your cognitive performance and creativity.

Food
When you switch from eating unhealthily to healthy, the difference will be tangible. If you don’t believe it, try cutting out all sugars, fast foods, high sodium, and packaged or processed foods for one week. Drink 2 Litres of water each day as well. Some of the benefits you’ll likely experience include: Alertness, Clear thinking, Lack of fatigue, Stronger mental focus, Better memory, Creativity, Less stress & Better sleep. You might even discover some benefits that aren’t on this list, and all of them will contribute to your success in whatever endeavours you pursue. Success in whatever you do is in the details. Thinking about what you put into your mouth each day could make the difference between a highly productive, fast-paced lifestyle and a slow, listless life.
