Bio

Michael McGrath is an experienced and accomplished technical leader with 25 years innovating across a variety of sectors. In his role as Technical Director, Michael is responsible for the management and governance of the AMTCE. In this role Michael provides leadership to the AMTCE team, manages the center’s relationships with key industry leaders and stakeholders and drives the delivery and continuous evolution of high-quality training programmes which meet the needs of industry and addresses identified skills gaps both regionally and nationally.

Michael has a broad technical experience including IoT, Cyber Physical Systems, Network Function Virtualisation (NFV), Cloud Computing and Sensors. A creative and strategic thinker, Michael holds 5 patents with 13 pending, has over 40 peer reviewed publications and has published two books on sensor applications. Michael holds multiple post-graduate qualifications including a PhD in sensors and instrumentation from Dublin City University.

The AMTCE located in the Xerox Technology Park, Dundalk was established by LMETB in January of 2021 with funding from SOLAS and Enterprise Ireland.  The focus of the centre is to address the training needs of the manufacturing domain in Ireland. Sectors such as engineering, pharma, food and drink and medical devices are undergoing a digital transformation driven by the adoption of industry 4.0 related technologies and processes. These changes are creating a need for companies and their employees to reskill and upskill to support the adoption of key technologies such as Robotics, Additive manufacturing, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity etc. The AMTCE is addressing the needs of industry through the provision of training through certified and industry certified courses using flexible delivery mechanisms including classrooms, blended, online and eLearning. The centre provides access to state-of-art industrial grade equipment to ensure learners receive a high-quality hands-on learning experience and acquire skills which are highly valued by employers. Training opportunities for companies and employees are supported and funded under the SOLAS Skills to Advance policy.
